This year was different. Several were in town for three weeks and some of the others made it for two of the three weeks. It has been a while since we have all been together. It has been a lot of late nights, laughs, screaming, running here and there and seeing this and that. Being together or going on vacation can make working out a challenge.
Let me give you a few ideas of what we did to keep up on the workouts and still have lots of fun.
Plan a family race.
I told about the Goody 5/10K a couple of weeks ago. It was really fun and we got a lot of the family involved in this one. Just remember, no one beats grandpa! (Except Rachel and Mike on the 10K)
Get out and explore the local sites and use resources.
We visited our local zoo, went swimming at Oma and Opa's pool a couple of times and one of my son-in-laws planned a great hike up in the Uintah mountains. It took a lot of planning for the hike due to the high levels of snow still hanging around at the higher elevations. But we found a great trail that was a bit lower than the ones we usually hike on and ended up doing 15.5 miles. Hard, but extremely rewarding!

I give this hike a big thumbs up! |
Find a new workout buddy.
Chances are that there is someone else in the family that likes to workout. See if you can plan a time each day to get out and do something together. This trip I was pleasantly surprised that one of my son-in-laws, (Mike), wanted to running with me in the mornings. He even did two of my scheduled long runs of 9 and 10 miles respectively. We learned a lot about each other and the miles flew by.
What do you do to make sure you get the workout in during your busy times?
Hang in there and I will too!
I have been walking with a few of my neighbors in the last few weeks. Not looking forward to school starting again and having to lose out on the morning walk, but might try to an evening here and there. Workout buddies are great!! Thumbs up to you on the hike!!!

I am on my own. There is no one out where I am that exercises. Oh my daddy will go for a walk but it's a stroll which is great for my cool down but ... well it's lonely. Hard at time to be motivated. You keep up the wonderful work, I love reading your posts.
ReplyDeleteTake care and God Bless!!
So awesome to find some great local things to do nearby! I love it when I go and take the kids for a hike or bike ride. You just never regret those times with family.
ReplyDeleteI workout 3 times a week with my bootcamp ladies we work out for a full hour and usually do a 20-20-20 running, weights and yoga. And during the summer it is so nice to workout to the sunrise.
Keep on running! You are doing an awesome job!
Always on the move- MER
I NEED A WORKOUT BUDDY! Wished we lived in the same neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteGreat and fun ideas, Bruce.
Wonderful scenery, Bruce! My best trick is to bike somewhere I'd be going anyway, or take my bike on my car rack and bike back. We've done that for a few BBQs and not only did I get an hour-long ride in, the upcoming ride was good incentive not to stuff myself at the BBQ.
